Exploratory Essay on Possible Consequences of Marijuana Legalization

Exploratory Essay on Possible Consequences of Marijuana Legalization Possible Consequences of Marijuana Legalization Legal position of marijuana has been one of the most controversial topics for many decades. As of today, in the majority of countries possession, consumption, transfer and cultivation of cannabis is prohibited by law and results in serious consequences. Still, there are countries, in which marijuana is not only legal, but also attracts travelers from all around the world (Holland, for instance). Let us consider what consequences could be brought about by marijuana legalization and would it be reasonable to legalize it? Cannabis is especially popular with young people who want to have fun and don’t want to do anything particular to relax. Of course, it is easy – just smoke a cigarette and forget about everything, plunging into the world of euphoria. But is it really that interesting? I don’t think so. In this state you just don’t control yourself and can make so many stupid things, of which you will later regret. Besides, being beyond your own control is not funny and interesting at all. I just don’t understand those people who like it. On the whole, I see only one advantage in legalization of marijuana – when it is not punishable, it is much less tempting. It becomes just a part of daily life with its drawbacks and benefits, and stops being a source of income for hundreds of drug dealers. I don’t think that it will result in serious rise of its consumption – the interest and excitement are sure to pass in a month or two, and everything will come back to norm. Thus, I don’t think that cannabis legalization would bring too much harm – only for drug dealers, probably.
